This small, two-storeyed gorse mill, from Deheufryn Farm, Dôl-wen, Denbighshire, is believed to have been built sometime after 1842.
The axle from the small wooden overshot water wheel continues into the building where it forms the central 'drum' of a gorse machine. Heavy iron spikes, driven into this part of the axle, rotate between four sets of similar spikes facing in towards the centre.
Gorse was grown and harvested for use as animal feed, and in particular for horses, though it had to be shredded and 'bruised' first, hence the purpose of the gorse mill.
The mill was disused by 1866. It was re-erected at the museum, as a static exhibit, in 1983
